Francis Brett Young

Francis Brett Young (1884-1954) was an English novelist, poet, playwright, composer, and physician who transitioned to full-time writing after serving in World War I. His most notable works include Portrait of Clare (1927), which won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, My Brother Jonathan (1928), The Island (1944), and the Mercian series set in the West Midlands. He achieved wide popularity for his storytelling, often drawing on his medical background, native Worcestershire landscapes, and travels to South Africa and Capri.
