About Fiona MacCarthy

Fiona MacCarthy (1940-2020) was a British biographer and cultural historian renowned for her studies of 19th- and 20th-century art and design figures. Her most notable works include William Morris: A Life for Our Time, which won the Wolfson History Prize, Eric Gill, Byron: Life and Legend, and The Last Pre-Raphaelite: Edward Burne-Jones and the Victorian Imagination, recipient of the James Tait Black Prize for Biography. She was appointed OBE in 2009, became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and held senior fellowships at prestigious institutions.
