About F. X. Toole
F. X. Toole (real name Jerry Boyd, 1930-2002) was an American author and boxing trainer best known for his debut collection of short stories Rope Burns: Stories from the Corner (2000), which inspired the Oscar-winning film Million Dollar Baby (2004), and his posthumous novel Pound for Pound (2006). Born in Long Beach, California, to Irish immigrant parents, he worked various jobs including cutman in boxing before achieving late literary success in his 70s. IMDb
