Espido Freire (born María Laura Espido Freire in 1974 in Bilbao, Spain) is a Spanish novelist who debuted with Irlanda (1998) and gained international acclaim as the youngest winner of the prestigious Premio Planeta award in 1999 for Melocotones helados. Other notable works include Llamadme Alejandra (Premio Azorín 2017) and recent publications like La historia de la mujer en 100 objetos (2023); she has also received the Premio Ateneo de Sevilla and writes essays, poetry, and young adult literature.
