About Ernesto Sabato

Ernesto Sábato (1911–2011) was an Argentine novelist, essayist, and physicist who abandoned science for literature after an existential crisis. Best known for his novels exploring philosophical and psychological themes, including El túnel (1948; The Tunnel), Sobre héroes y tumbas (1961; On Heroes and Tombs), and Abaddón el exterminador (1974; Angel of Darkness), he received the Cervantes Prize in 1984 and led the CONADEP commission authoring the Nunca Más report on Argentina's Dirty War atrocities.
