About Elizabeth Spires

Elizabeth Spires (born 1952) is an American poet, professor, and children's book author. Born in Lancaster, Ohio, she graduated from Vassar College and Johns Hopkins University, and teaches at Goucher College where she holds a Chair for Distinguished Achievement. Her poetry has appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, and other magazines; notable works include the award-winning Worldling and children's book The Mouse of Amherst; she has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, Whiting Award, and Amy Lowell Travelling Scholarship.
