Elizabeth Longford

Elizabeth Pakenham, Countess of Longford (née Harman; 1906–2002) was an English historian and biographer best known for her acclaimed works including Victoria R.I. (1964, winner of the James Tait Black Memorial Prize), the two-volume Wellington biography (1969/1972), and Byron (1976). A Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and trustee of the National Portrait Gallery, she was married to Frank Pakenham, 7th Earl of Longford, and mother to writers like Antonia Fraser. She died aged 96 in East Sussex.
