About Elizabeth Enright
Elizabeth Wright Enright (1907–1968) was an American author of children's books, illustrator, and short story writer best known for her Newbery Medal-winning Thimble Summer (1938) and Newbery Honor book Gone-Away Lake (1957), as well as the popular Melendy quartet. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, to artist parents, she transitioned from illustration to writing after studying art in New York and Paris, and also taught creative writing and reviewed children's literature.
