About Elfrida Vipont
Elfrida Vipont (1902–1992) was an English author of children's literature, born in Manchester to a Quaker family, who initially published under the pseudonym Charles Vipont before using her own name and E. V. Foulds after marriage. She is best known for the Haverard family series, including The Lark in the Morn (1948) and The Lark on the Wing (1950), the latter winning the prestigious Carnegie Medal in 1951, as well as the popular picture book The Elephant and the Bad Baby (1969) illustrated by Raymond Briggs. A lifelong Quaker, she also wrote extensively on Quakerism and biographies of authors like Charlotte Brontë and Jane Austen.
