Eleanor Estes (1906–1988) was an American children's author and librarian renowned for her family stories inspired by her early 20th-century life in small-town Connecticut. Her most notable works include the Newbery Medal-winning Ginger Pye (1951) and the Moffats series (The Moffats, The Middle Moffat, Rufus M.), with three books earning Newbery Honors (The Middle Moffat, Rufus M. The Hundred Dresses) and The Moffats receiving the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award. She authored 20 books, often illustrating her own works, and received additional accolades like the Certificate of Award for Outstanding Contribution to Children’s Literature.
