About Dumas Malone

Dumas Malone (1892-1986) was an American historian and biographer best known for his six-volume masterwork Jefferson and His Time, the authoritative biography of Thomas Jefferson completed over four decades and awarded the 1975 Pulitzer Prize for History. He also served as editor-in-chief of the Dictionary of American Biography and director of Harvard University Press, receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1983 from President Ronald Reagan.National Book Foundation, NYT Obituary
