About Dorothy P. Lathrop
Dorothy Pulis Lathrop (1891–1980) was an American author and illustrator of children's books, best known for her illustrations in Animals of the Bible, which earned her the first Caldecott Medal in 1938, and for Hitty, Her First Hundred Years, a Newbery Medal winner. Over her career spanning 1919 to 1967, she illustrated more than 38 books by other authors, wrote and illustrated nine children's books, and was an accomplished printmaker focusing on animals and fantasy. She was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1949.
