Donald Roy Howard (1927-1987) was an American medievalist and literary scholar renowned for his works on Geoffrey Chaucer, including the award-winning posthumous biography Chaucer: His Life, His Works, His World, which received the 1987 National Book Critics Circle Award for Biography/Autobiography, as well as The Idea of the Canterbury Tales (1976), which earned the Melville Cane Award.
