About David Newsome

David Hay Newsome (1929-2004) was a British historian and educator renowned for his works on Victorian England, including the Whitbread Prize-winning On the Edge of Paradise: A. C. Benson, the Diarist (1980), Godliness and Good Learning (1961), The Parting of Friends (1966), and The Victorian World Picture (1997). A fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and headmaster of Christ's Hospital and Wellington College, he received the Whitbread Book of the Year Award and fellowship in the Royal Historical Society.Encyclopedia.com, The Times
