About David Gewanter

David Gewanter is an American poet, editor, and essayist born in New York City in 1954. He earned a BA cum laude from the University of Michigan, where he won the Hopwood Award, and a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley; he has taught at Harvard and Georgetown University. His notable works include the poetry collections In the Belly (1997, winner of the John C. Zacharis First Book Award), The Sleep of Reason (2003, James Laughlin Award finalist), War Bird (2009), and Fort Necessity (2018), as well as co-editing Collected Poems of Robert Lowell (2003, Ambassador Book Award winner).
