About Corrado Alvaro

Corrado Alvaro (1895–1956) was an Italian journalist, novelist, and writer renowned for his verismo-style depictions of poverty and social injustice in Calabria. His most notable works include Gente in Aspromonte (1930), considered his masterpiece, L'uomo è forte (1938), and Quasi una vita (1950), for which he won the prestigious Strega Prize in 1951; he also received the La Stampa prize in 1931.New Directions Publishing, Library of Congress.
