About Colleen Hoover

Colleen Hoover (born December 11, 1979, in Sulphur Springs, Texas) is an American romance and new adult fiction author whose work has achieved extraordinary popular success in the 2010s and 2020s. She self-published her debut novel Slammed in 2012 after being unable to secure traditional publishing deals, and it became a bestseller shortly after. She later signed with Atria Books (Simon & Schuster). Hoover is particularly known for emotionally intense contemporary romances that often deal with difficult topics including domestic violence, grief, and mental health. Her most prominent titles include Ugly Love (2014), It Ends with Us (2016), Without Merit (2017), and Confess (2015). She dominated the Goodreads Choice Awards for Romance from 2015 through 2017, winning three consecutive years. It Ends with Us, originally published in 2016, experienced a massive resurgence in popularity through BookTok in 2022 and 2023, becoming one of the bestselling books of the decade and sparking widespread discussion about its portrayal of abusive relationships. Hoover co-founded the Book Bonanza reader convention and established the Bookworm Box subscription service, which supports charitable causes. As of 2023, she has written more than 25 novels and sold over 20 million books. She lives in Texas with her family.
