About Claude Farrère
Claude Farrère (1876-1957), pseudonym of Frédéric-Charles Bargone, was a French Navy officer and prolific novelist whose works often drew from his travels to exotic locales like Istanbul, Saigon, and Nagasaki. His novel Les Civilisés (1905) won the Prix Goncourt, and he was elected to the Académie Française in 1935. Notable works include Fumée d'opium (1904) and La Bataille (1909).English
