Christopher Paul Curtis (born 1953) is an American children's author renowned for historical fiction novels like The Watsons Go to Birmingham – 1963 (1995) and Bud, Not Buddy (1999), the latter earning him the Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Award in 2000—the first African-American man to win the Newbery Medal.
