About Charif Shanahan

Charif Shanahan (born 1983 in the Bronx, New York) is an American poet and translator known for his explorations of mixed-race identity, queer desire, and anti-Blackness. His debut collection Into Each Room We Enter without Knowing (2017) won the Crab Orchard Series in Poetry First Book Award, while his second, Trace Evidence (2023), was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and National Book Award longlist, and winner of the Lambda Literary Award for Gay Poetry and Publishing Triangle's Thom Gunn Award.
