Carol Ann Duffy (born December 23, 1955, in Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish poet and playwright whose notable works include Standing Female Nude (1985), Mean Time (1993), Rapture (2005, T.S. Eliot Prize), and The World's Wife (1999). She served as the UK's Poet Laureate from 2009 to 2019, becoming the first woman, first Scot, and first openly lesbian to hold the position, and has received numerous awards including the Whitbread Poetry Award, Forward Prize, and DBE in 2015.
