About C. S. Forester
C. S. Forester (1899-1966), born Cecil Louis Troughton Smith in Cairo, Egypt, was a British author renowned for his Horatio Hornblower series of 12 historical novels depicting a Royal Navy officer during the Napoleonic Wars, beginning with Beat to Quarters (1937). Other notable works include The African Queen (1935, adapted into the acclaimed 1951 film) and The Good Shepherd (1955, adapted as Greyhound in 2020). He won the 1938 James Tait Black Memorial Prize for A Ship of the Line and Flying Colours.
