C. J. Cherryh (born Carolyn Janice Cherry on September 1, 1942) is an American speculative fiction author best known for her Hugo Award-winning novels Downbelow Station (1981) and Cyteen (1988), set in her expansive Alliance–Union universe, as well as the long-running Foreigner series. SFWA Nebula Awards. With over 80 books, she received the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer (1977), three Hugo Awards including for short story "Cassandra" (1979), the SFWA Damon Knight Grand Master Award (2016), and continues to write as of 2025, living near Spokane, Washington.SFADB Awards.
