About Brent Staples

Brent Staples (born 1951) is an American author and editorial writer for The New York Times, best known for his memoir Parallel Time: Growing Up in Black and White (Anisfield-Wolf Book Award winner, Los Angeles Times Book Prize finalist) and the essay "Just Walk on By: Black Men and Public Space." He won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing for his work on the history of racism in the United States and is a fellow of the Society of American Historians.
