Bernadotte Everly Schmitt (1886-1969) was an American historian specializing in modern European history, best known for his work on the origins of World War I. His seminal book The Coming of the War, 1914 (1930) earned the George Louis Beer Prize in 1930 and the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1931, arguing for Germany's primary responsibility and rejecting revisionist views.
