Barry Unsworth

Barry Unsworth (1930-2012) was an English author renowned for his historical fiction, born in Wingate, County Durham, and publishing 17 novels over his career. He achieved major literary success with the Booker Prize-winning Sacred Hunger (1992, co-winner), shortlistings for Pascali's Island (1980) and Morality Play (1995), and the Heinemann Award for Mooncranker's Gift (1973), often exploring themes of morality, empire, and human greed through past eras.
