Edward Irving Wortis (born 1937), better known by his pen name Avi, is an American author of young adult and children's literature who has written over 80 books across genres like historical fiction, fantasy, and mystery. He is most notable for Crispin: The Cross of Lead (Newbery Medal 2003), The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, and Nothing but the Truth (both Newbery Honors).
