Autran Dourado

Waldomiro Freitas Autran Dourado (1926-2012) was a Brazilian novelist, journalist, and lawyer born in Patos de Minas, Minas Gerais. He is known for his intricate, psychologically deep narratives often set in the interior of Minas Gerais, exploring themes like death, solitude, and madness, with stylistic influences from Baroque literature and modernists like James Joyce. His major achievements include the Camões Prize (2000), Jabuti Prize (1982), and Machado de Assis Prize (2008), and his works such as Ópera dos Mortos were included in UNESCO's collection of representative works.
