About Arkady Martine

Arkady Martine is an American science fiction author and Byzantine historian. She won the Locus Award for Best Science Fiction Novel and the Hugo Award for Best Novel for A Desolation Called Peace (2022), the second volume of her Teixcalaan series. Her debut A Memory Called Empire (2019) won the Hugo Award for Best Novel and the Arthur C. Clarke Award. Martine is a pen name for AnnaLinden Weller. She holds a PhD in Byzantine history and has worked as a city planner in Baltimore before her writing career took off. The Teixcalaan series is set in a vast interstellar empire and is celebrated for its meditation on empire, assimilation, language, and identity. She co-founded the Twelfth Planet Press SF imprint and continues to be an active voice in the SF community. Martine lives in the American Southwest.
