About Antonio Skármeta

Esteban Antonio Skármeta Vranicic (1940-2024) was a Chilean writer, screenwriter, and director best known for his novel Ardiente paciencia (later El cartero de Neruda), adapted into the Oscar-nominated film Il Postino. His works, translated into nearly 30 languages, often explored Chilean history under dictatorship, earning him awards like the Chilean National Literature Prize (2014), Premio Planeta (2003), and Prix Médicis étranger.
