About Antonio Gamoneda
Antonio Gamoneda (born May 30, 1931, in Oviedo, Spain) is a Spanish poet who moved to León as a child, self-educated during the Spanish Civil War, and worked in banking while resisting Franco's dictatorship. He gained prominence with works like Descripción de la mentira (1977) and Libro del frío (1992), the latter considered a masterpiece that solidified his status as one of the most important poets in the Spanish language. His awards include the Cervantes Prize (2006), Reina Sofía Poetry Prize (2006), and National Prize for Literature (1988) for Edad. Spanish.
