Antonio Gala Velasco (1930-2023) was a prolific Spanish writer renowned for his contributions to poetry, drama, and novels, achieving massive commercial success with works that blended lyricism and epic storytelling often drawing on historical themes to illuminate contemporary issues. Among his most notable works are the plays Los verdes campos del Edén (1963, National Theatre Prize Calderón de la Barca) and Anillos para una dama (1973), and novels like El manuscrito carmesí (1990, Planeta Prize) and La pasión turca (1993, adapted to film).
