Anthony Hecht

Anthony Hecht (1923-2004) was an American poet renowned for his formalist verse confronting 20th-century horrors, including his World War II experiences liberating Flossenbürg concentration camp. His breakthrough Pulitzer Prize-winning collection The Hard Hours (1967) and notable works like "More Light! More Light!" established his reputation, earning further honors such as the Bollingen Prize, Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, and U.S. Poet Laureate (1982-1984).
