About Anne Michaels

Anne Michaels is a Canadian poet and novelist born in Toronto in 1958. Her debut novel Fugitive Pieces (1996) won the Orange Prize for Fiction, the Books in Canada First Novel Award, and the Trillium Book Award. Her long-awaited second novel Held (2023) was shortlisted for the 2024 Booker Prize. Michaels has published several collections of poetry, including The Weight of Oranges/Miner's Pond (1997), which won the Commonwealth Poetry Prize.
