Andrew O'Hagan (born 1968 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish novelist, essayist, and non-fiction author of Irish Catholic descent, best known for his state-of-the-nation novels exploring contemporary British society, personal histories, and social issues. His most notable works include the Booker-shortlisted Our Fathers (1999), Personality (winner of the James Tait Black Memorial Prize), Be Near Me, The Illuminations, Mayflies (winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and Christopher Isherwood Prize), and the recent Caledonian Road (2024). He has been three times nominated for the Booker Prize, won the E.M. Forster Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and was named one of Granta's Best of Young British Novelists in 2003; he remains active as Editor-at-Large for the London Review of Books.com
