Ana María Matute (1925-2014) was a Spanish novelist renowned for her works depicting the Spanish Civil War and postwar period, often focusing on children and adolescents amid violence, alienation, and loss of innocence. She authored notable novels like Primera memoria, which won the Premio Nadal, and the epic Olvidado rey Gudú, blending myth and fantasy. Matute received the Cervantes Prize in 2010, becoming the third woman to win this highest Spanish-language literary honor, and was a member of the Real Academia Española.
