Alphonse de Châteaubriant (1877-1951) was a French novelist renowned for his evocative depictions of rural life. He achieved major literary success with the Prix Goncourt in 1911 for Monsieur des Lourdines and the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française in 1923 for La Brière.
