About Alma Flor Ada

Alma Flor Ada (born January 3, 1938, in Camagüey, Cuba) is a Cuban-American author of over 200 children's books, poetry, folktales, and novels, as well as a Professor Emerita at the University of San Francisco who has promoted bilingual and multicultural education. Her most notable works include Under the Royal Palms (Pura Belpré Award, 2000), The Gold Coin (Christopher Award, 1991), Gathering the Sun, and My Name is María Isabel. She has received numerous honors, including the Ohtli Award (2014) and California Association for Bilingual Education Lifetime Achievement Award (2010).
