Akio Miyahara

Akio Miyahara (born August 5, 1932, in Yokohama, Japan) is a Japanese novelist who debuted in 1966 with "Stone Nymphs," winning the Bungakukai Newcomer Award and an Akutagawa Prize nomination, before securing the prestigious 67th Akutagawa Prize in 1972 for his novel "Someone Touched" (Dareka ga Sawatta). His works often explore themes of youth, disability, and maritime humor, including the Godzilla Maru series, and he has mentored notable authors like Sayaka Murata while remaining active into his 90s with publications like "Mood at 88" in 2020.
