Akiko Akazome

Akiko Akazome (born Akiko Seino; 1974–2017) was a Japanese fiction writer from Maizuru, Kyoto Prefecture, who graduated from Kyoto University of Foreign Studies and briefly studied German literature at Hokkaido University before debuting as an author. She won the 99th Bungakukai Prize in 2004 for \"Hatsuko-san\" and the prestigious 143rd Akutagawa Prize in 2010 for her novel Otome no mikkoku (The Maiden's Betrayal), which sparked controversy for its humorous take on Anne Frank's diary but was praised for addressing social issues.
