About A.J. Verdelle

A.J. Verdelle (born 1960 in Washington, D.C.) is an American novelist and essayist best known for her debut novel The Good Negress (1995), which won multiple awards including the Whiting Award and was praised by Toni Morrison. Foundation. She holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Bard College, has taught creative writing at Princeton and Lesley University, and published the memoir Miss Chloe about her friendship with Morrison.
